Essential Oils in Psoriasis

This is a skin disease where the skin cells start to grow too rapidly; the immature cells over-produce but fail to mature into proper keratin. The new cells grow more rapidly than the old dead layers can be shed and so thick, reddened patches form which are covered with a silvery scale. They can appear in patches almost anywhere, often on the outer surfaces of the elbows or knees, and in severe cases can cover the whole body.

Essential oils that help to reduce inflammation may help locally, but it may be just as helpful to concentrate on lowering the stress levels. Thus oils may be added to the bath: choose from Bergamot, Chamomile, Geranium, Jasmine, Lavender, Neroli or Rose for their relaxing and/or uplifting qualities. Change the oils around depending on the emotional state, and be prepared for limited success and improvements in the skin! Do not despair, psoriasis is notoriously difficult to treat, and sufferers carry the possibility of a recurrence even after the skin has cleared.
